The oceanic posidonia is an aquatic plant typical of the Mediterranean Sea that forms underwater meadows of great ecological importance, as it helps to slow down the erosion of thecoastline, contributes to the oxygenation of the water and is the habitat of protection and reproduction of many marine subspecies. For all these reasons, it is considered a good indicator of the quality of coastal marine waters.

The oceans and seas take a tremendous part of our planet due they generate most of the oxygen we breathe. A important source of food as well as an important part of the biosphere. Unfortunately, we have not always been respectful of them. In fact, the Mediterranean Sea is currently the most polluted sea in the world and it is urgent that measures are taken to end the misuse of its resources.
